Commonly any type of metallic corrosion is referred as rusting, though rust forms only on iron. Almost all the metals react with oxygen to form oxides. Metal oxides are chemical compounds formed as a result of electrochemical reactions. Aluminum forms aluminum oxide, copper forms copper oxide; similarly iron forms iron oxide, which is also known as Rust .
Iron reacts with oxygen very fast. Iron and steel both get oxidized in presence of water to form iron oxide – the reddish brown compound, also known as Rust. A piece of iron if left open and unprotected in nature, rusting begins readily and the entire object is transformed into iron oxide soon.

Iron, oxygen and water – these are the three things required for rust formation. To protect iron from rusting, you need to protect it from either oxygen or water or both. Keeping the environment 100% dry could solve the problem OR you can cover the structure with a rust proof material.
Different types of rustproofing materials are available in the market. Rust proof coating is one easy way to protect your things. A waterproof and steady emulsion is applied all over the surface of the metal so that it cannot come into contact with environmental oxygen and water.
Stainless steel is a rust resistant iron alloy often used to manufacture structures subject to heavy load and pressure. Natural steel is treated specially to produce stainless steel. The term is ‘stain less steel’ basically as it does not rust.
Rust Cleaner:
Use rust stain remover to remove rust and rust stain from any iron article. Scrubbing with sand paper also works well, but it requires huge effort. On contrast, liquid, or even powder based rust cleaners, are much easier to apply.
